Nobody Owens.

From the beginnig of this novel Bod is always growing and learning new things. This story i believe is more than just a story of a boy named Bod who lives in a graveyard. It is a story about children as they experience new things, learn lessons the hard way, figure out right from wrong, and just grow up as a person. In the end of the story when Bod has to leave it is just an example of how people never really know what is ahead of them in life, but they have to move forward everyday. Neil Gaiman touched on some very important issues in life through the charecter Bod, don't you agree?

The fascination today.

So there are many books out now about..I guess you would call them creatures or something..like ghosts, vampires, werewolves,witches things like that. This seems to be a major fascination with authors and readers today. For a long time I know i would stereotype those books to be scary or violent, but now it seems authors are trying to make them pleasant beings. So, I personally don't believe in ghosts and things but I'm wondering if you do? Also, why do you think writers are making these creatures more presentable and caring?

Silas.

Silas is obviously a very important person in Bod's life. He is there for deep conversations, lessons, and advice. To me he seems like a big brother. But, one thing i really do not like about Silas is he seems like such a mystery. He's a main charecter truly, but really we don't know that much about him. We have had to guess that he is vampire and we are givin pretty good clues, but not a concrete answer. Also, where did he go when he left? We were givin clues to show that he didn't really go by choice; however, no specific place. So, personally I would like to have your oppinion,why do you think he is such a mysterious charecter?

Sybolism in this novel.

There is alot of symbolism in this novel I think. The ghosts and otheer inhabitants in the graveyard symbolis Bods family, or family in general. The White flowers in the town symbolis the unity among a certain group of people. Also, the Macabray dance symbolises the connection between the living and the dead. These are good representtions of each of the things in peoples everyday lives. Did you find another thing symbolised in this novel?

Friends.

As a child we all start meeting new people and making freinds, it's a part of gowing up and being who you are. I really like the fact that in this novel Bod has a varriety of friends. He starts with being friends with Silas, Scarlett, and Liza. Both living and dead. We can translate that into our own lives every day. Children seem to not pay as much attention to the differences in people as teens and adults do. We make a judgemeant on people by what the person looks like, what clothes they wear, what sports they play, and their social status. Its seems superficial, but it's the truth. Bod seems to be the complete opposit, he has a certain innocence to him that lets him get passed all of that and see his friends for what kind of person they are. Do you agree that teenagers today need to stop judging people and start seeing them for who they really are?

The settings.

The graveyard in this story is very interesting I think. Unlike most stories the graveyard in this is depicted as more of a happy, loving place. Most graveyards are steriotyped as scary, mean places that moost people avoid going into;however, in this novel it's more of a safe haven for Bod. I liked how the cover of the book is blue so it kind of sets a calm setting in the setting of the graveyard but when Bod is with the gouls the shy is red so it makes the setting more scary. These small details I feel are very important. It's a very unconventional story but I think Neil Gaiman made this transition very well.

What has confused,annoyed, or made me laugh in this book so far.

So this is a good book so far, I think. It's very suspenseful, but kind of confusing at times. It took me a while to figure out that Bod's guardian is actually a vampire. I thought that twist in the graveyard,which you would think would just be ghosts(...or like zombies or something), was clever. One thing that i really don't like about the stroy is how they refer to the killer as the man Jack, it really annoyed me and it seems unnecessary. Also, the lady Silas got to take his place reminded me of one of the ladies from Nanny 911, and I thought that was funny. I didn't really understand the part about the hill and when they went down into the cave thing, so i don't know what to say about that other than it was weird. Another thing that confused me was when the police found the girl and Bod was with her how could they not see him? And if they could see him why didn't they talk to him or ask him where he lived or something? This really confused me and it's probably the only thing i don't like about this story thus far. But i really like reading this book.
